"Lots of flying. Cosmic energy blasts all over the place." - Dámaso Rodriguez
How do you make a graphic novel come to life on stage? Moments like the one when Hellbound Hero rips the heart out of an opponent are a challenge, but director Dámaso Rodriguez took the task in stride. One of his first steps in realizing Matt Pelfrey's graphic novel action adventure play, No Good Deed? Hiring illustrator Ben Matsuya. Dámaso wanted the actors to "literally connect with an animated image." Ben's illustrations, which were based on watching the actors in rehearsal, are incorporated into the staged production by projection designer Jason Thompson. And, as to how the actors interact with the graphic novel? "Lots and lots of rehearsal."
